Copper Missile weaved his way through horses in deep stretch to emerge with a 3 ¼-length victory in a $150,000 maiden special weight race Aug. 31 at Kentucky Downs [WATCH RACE].
The 2-year-old is the latest winner for First-Crop sire Copper Bullet, who now has winners at distances from five furlongs to one mile on both dirt and turf.
Copper Missile was well off the early pace as the field of 12 made their way around the sweeping downhill bend. Coming into the long stretch, the chestnut colt was behind a wall of horses. He finally found an opening in the final furlong, and with an impressive burst, distanced himself from the field.
Copper Missile picked up $90,000 in victory for owners Eli Diamant, Edward Delava, Kevin Marko and Crown’s Way Racing LLC. The winner was bred by Katie Rich Farms and is the second foal out of Unique Ride, who is a daughter of graded stakes-placed Daisyago.
